











August 24th 2010: As part of the Gold Coast District RSL's commitment to supporting the Cadet Units who assist Sub Branches during Commemorative and Ceremonial occasions, Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch Vice President (L) Mr Bill Thompson and Secretary (R) Mr Gordon Armstrong, present 133 Army Cadet Unit members, Cadet Under Officer (CUO) Nicole Lingham, Lt (AAC) Mark Shelley (center) and Cadet Cpl Brendan Hirst (left) with equipment that will replace old and unsafe items currently used by the Cadet Unit .
The Cadets attend bivouacs 4 times annually and require appropriate equipment to support their training during these weekends.
The 133 ACU currently has 60 members and parade at Palm Beach Currumbin High School every Wednesday night from 4.30 pm till 7.00pm.
CUO Nicole Lingham has been involved with the Cadet Unit for 6 years and carries on a family tradition of being one of five sisters who have been members of this unit. Her eldest sister is currently serving in the regular Army and her second sister is a member of the Army Reserves.
Lt(AAC) Mark Shelly has been involved with the Unit for 8 years to fulfill a desire to work with the youth of the District.
Cadet Cpl Brendan Hirst has been involved with the Unit for 3 years as a result, he says, of having a fascination in his younger days with all things Army.
Thanks are extended to Mark at Camping World, Currumbin Creek Rd, Currumbin for supplying the items required by the Unit.
September 2010:
Vice President of Runaway Bay RSL Sub Branch Mr Peter Leeson was a guest at the recently held dining in night for the 221 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadet Unit. The members of the 221 Sqdn AAFC have provided continuous support to the Runaway Bay Sub Branch on Ceremonial occasions and to show the appreciation of the Sub Branch and the Gold Coast District, Mr Leeson presented them with compasses, CB Radios and a generator to assist them with their future training
March 2010:
Twin Towns RSL Sub Branch and the Gold Coast District has provided funding to the Navy cadets of TS Vampire to enable the purchase of a canvas and canopy, sails and a trailer for their corsair vessel . The Unit has supported Twin Towns RSL Sub Branch on numerous ceremonial occasions.
September 2010:
Southport Sub Branch and the Gold Coast District have provided funding to Australian Navy Cadet Unit TS Tyalgum to enable much needed repairs and maintenance of their outboard motor and the vessel itself. Funding has also been provided for the provision of a new Amp to update the unit's PA System. Southport RSL and TS Tyalgum have had a close relationship over many years and this funding is an opportunity to thank the Australian Navy Cadet Unit for their past and future assistance.
November 2010: A further application for funding was received for the salvage and repair of tender Cleopatra which was sunk in rough weather.Total funding provided to TS Tyalgum for 2010 was $7,996.81
May 2010:
Beenleigh RSL Sub Branch and Gold Coast District have allocated funds to enable the building of a shed for Australian Navy Cadet Unit TS Walrus to house one corsair and power boats. This will alleviate the current situation where vessels have been stored in an area presenting OH & S issues.
October 2010 ; Above.
Beenleigh RSL Sub Branch Secretary, Dave Draper presents TS Walrus Navy Cadets with the shed sponsored by the GCD Cadet Fund. The shed will protect their vessels and other equipment and will provide easier access to the boats when required.
November 2010: Further funding was provided to enable the laying of a concrete floor in the shed. Total funding provied to TS Walrus for 2010 was $8,800.00
